Bldg 9 | Alameda, CA

Bldg 9 is part of the first private acquisition and redevelopment at the decommissioned Naval Air Station Alameda. srmErnst rehabilitated this 81,000-square foot former navy building to accommodate R&D and modern manufacturing uses. This $38 million renovation included bringing all new utility infrastructure, adding a 17,000-square foot mezzanine, replacing over 10,000 panes of glass with performance glazing, and restoring original hangar doors and a 10-ton overhead bridge crane to operable condition. Kairos Power occupies half the building with R&D facilities and offices, bringing over 150 jobs to Alameda Point. 40,000 square feet of the building will be occupied by a commercial bakery with a small retail component.
